Welcome to The Cottage at Drymen, our home in the Loch Lomond National Park.
We are situated in a quiet hamlet 0.7 miles from Drymen, with views to Loch Lomond on approach, and so ideally situated for West Highland Way walkers at the end of their first days walk. The Rob Roy Way also starts at Drymen. There are several pubs in Drymen for evening meals, as well as local shops, art gallery, cashpoint, and a Post Office. The Oak Tree at Balmaha (3 miles) also provides excellent meals all day and you can walk along Loch Lomond after your meal.
The Cottage dates back to the 18th century when the Duke of Montrose built Buchanan Smithy for the estate workers, close to his then home at Buchanan Castle, which is now a golf course. The name Buchanan Smithy comes from the presence of a number of Blacksmiths working in the Smithy here. Now extended an tastefully renovated, The Cottage provides a cosy and comfortable stay in some of Scotland's most beautiful countryside.
Our Drymen bed and breakfast accommodation is situated 15 - 20 minutes walk from Drymen and the West Highland Way, to which you can easily retrace your steps. We can drop you back in Drymen for your evening meal by arrangment and supply information on rejoining the route in the morning. If you are walking from Drymen to Rowardennan on day two of the West Highland Way, and would like to stay another night with us, we can also pick you up from Rowardennan and drop you back there the following morning.
Loch Lomond itself is a 5 minute drive from The Cottage, and further afield are other interesting places to visit such as Stirling Castle (30 minutes) the Wallace Monument, Inverary (1 hour), Glencoe (2 hours). The Trossachs are reached within 15 minutes by car, also providing great opportunities for walking, mountain biking and boat trips on Loch Katrine. We are also in a great location if you are coming from further South on route to the Highlands, and want to break the journey overnight before going North. If cities are more your thing, Glasgow is 35 minutes by car and provides a wealth of interesting things to see and do.
We aim at a quiet and relaxed stay so on arrival tea and coffee will be provided to welcome you. To make for a peaceful nights sleep, there are no TV's in the bedrooms, however you are welcome to use the lounge which has TV facilities. Wi-fi is available on request (please bring your own laptop) or the Library in Drymen provides Internet services. Tea and coffee facilities are provided in the rooms. In the colder months, the lounge has a log fire to make for an extra cosy evening, and if it's sunny breakfast may be taken on the patio. There is a room available for drying boots and jackets if appropriate.
You will of course be provided with a breakfast cooked on the Rayburn, or continental and we request that if you have any special dietary requirements that you advise us at the time of booking so we can accommodate your needs. As this is a family home, please note we do not accept groups of people attending weddings and stag or hen parties. There is parking at the front of the house adjacent to the road.
Check in is from 4.00pm to 6pm unless arranged otherwise in advance, and we would appreciate it if you can confirm your estimated time of arrival 1-2 days prior to your arrival so that we can personally welcome you. Rooms should be vacated by 10.00am. For the comfort of all our guests, we operate a strictly no smoking policy throughout our home and grounds. We cannot accommodate pets. Our home is mainly suited to couples/adults, however we welcome children who are 12 years or older.
We hope you have a pleasant stay in this beautiful part of the world.
