West Highland Way
The West Highland Way is a popular long distance footpath, starting in Milngavie and ending at Fort William. The entire route covers 95 miles, or of course you can do sections of it if you don't have a whole week to spare. The scenery varies dramatically as you move from the lowlands into the highlands, giving a wealth of contrasts in geology, flora and fauna. The length of each day can vary, and The Cottage is situated near the end of day one for most people, which is the Milngavie to Drymen section, approx. 12 miles or 19.5 km.
West Highland Way accommodation can get booked up quickly in the summer months so we would recommend you book all your accommodation in advance.
As an indication of how you can split the walk into manageable sections. If you would like to spend two nights with us, we can arrange to pick you up from Rowardennan on day two of your walk and drop you back there the following morning. Accommodation in Rowardennan is limited so this may prove a good option for you. We don't charge for this service.
Milngavie - Drymen 19.5km
Drymen - Rowardennan 22.5km
Rowardennan - Inverarnan 22.5km
Inverarnan - Crianlarich 10.5km
Crianlarich - Bridge of Orchy 21.5km

There are no easily accessible shops on the section between Drymen and Crianlarich, so Drymen is a good place to visit the cashpoint, buy plasters, post cards etc before moving on. The Post Office also sells maps and information about the West Highland Way. We can offer a packed lunch if ordered on arrival, or you can buy sandwiches from the shops in Drymen. You can also buy midge repellant in the Post Office! It is a fabulous walk so we hope you enjoy it.
